"Benitez Is The Best Coach I've Played For"
Pepe Reina looked back on his time at Liverpool with Marca Plus.
During the interview, the goalkeeper spoke about Rafa Benitez as "the best coach I've played for in my
career" and revealed that the Spanish tactician was the main reason for his decision to join Napoli on loan two seasons ago.
As for his time at Liverpool, Reina spoke about a "legendary place. The atmosphere at Anfield is incredible, the fans are amazing and hearing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' is very special".
When asked about Steven Gerrard's farewell, the 32-year-old said: "Legends receive better farewells in England than they do in Spain. We have to learn from them on this. They tend to idolise players more than we do and a player like Gerrard deserved that send-off, just as other players in our country do".
Reina looked back at his first season in Munich, where he has not enjoyed regular first-team football. "It's been a harder year than I expected. You can accept being understudy in the national team, but it's more difficult to accept at a big club. I hoped to play more, but I haven't felt deceived because I knew what I was letting myself in for. I have a contract with Bayern, although the plan is to play more football next season", stated the Spaniard.
The news that Bayern have brought in Sven Ulreich could very well be a further nail in Reina's coffin at the German giants.
