The Argentina international has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as Louis van Gaal looks to improve his defensive options for next season.
After months of speculation it finally seems that the Red Devils have finally got there man, with Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reporting that a deal is nearly done.
Schira’s claims, as per the Star, that United have agreed a £25m fee with the La Liga outfit and a four-year contract with the 27-year-old.
Schira said: “Manchester United looking to close the deal for Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia for £25m. MUFC has offered a contract until 2019.”
It is reported by the aforementioned source that Otamendi has a £36m release clause in his contract, however, if Schira’s claims are true it appears the Premier League side have done a good bit of business to sign him for less.
Previous reports had suggested that the Argentine had asked for a move away this summer with his agent, Eugenio Lopez, saying his client “is going to do everything [possible] to leave,” as per the Star.
