Paul Scholes Names Angel di Maria His 'Biggest Disappointment'
Angel di Maria has failed at Manchester United but should not be sold in the off-season, Paul Scholes wrote in his latest Independent column.
Di Maria moved to Old Trafford from Real Madrid last summer in a British-record £59.7m transfer, but faded after an initial bright start.
The Argentine suffered injury problems earlier in the campaign, while a break-in at his Cheshire home only added to speculation that he was growing unsettled in England.
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have both been linked with moves for Di Maria in the summer, although Scholes believes the winger should get another chance to prove himself under manager Louis van Gaal.
Nevertheless, the former United and England midfielder named the 27-year-old his 'biggest disappointment', along with Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.
"[He made] a good start but, for £59.7m, the hope was that he would give United much more.
"I accept he has had problems off the pitch settling into life in Manchester, but there is no way he can see the season as anything other than a disappointment.
